I have had the good fortune of having a number of new and pre-owned Smallman gutiars in the shop over the last year or two. They are hugely popular of course, and almost always quickly find a new and appreciative home. Smallman lovers are rabid fans and passionate about their instruments and after hearing so many I can easily appreciate what it is that appeals to such a broad base of players globally. This Smallman is in near new condition, having only a light mark on the back , a couple of very minor marks on the top, and a little lightning of the finish in a small area under the 6th string that can only be seen by holding the guitar in just the right light, but when you just pick it up and look at it, it basically looks new. It comes in nice white Dormer case, the precursor in some ways to the Karura cases Smallman uses today. The guitar has beautiful rosewood on the back and sides, a 650mm scale, arm rest, and my favorite feature of all the adjustable neck which allows quick and easy raising and lowering of the action without removing the strings! It is a quintessential Smallman in many ways. I consider Smallman guitars to have the most volume/projection of just about anything on planet earth. Dang the're just uber robust guitars. Tonally, well, we've all heard John Williams recordings and probably most of us have heard him live, we know the sound right? This guitar has that 'Smallman Character' that we all are so familiar with in spades. Bold clear solid notes, with an enormous dynamic range, exceptional sustain, with a characteristically present fundamental that is enhanced by subtle overtones that support but never overpower. Very well balanced, and super responsive to the slightest touch. I can't imagine a Smallman lover I know who would not drool over this guitar. ©2012 Classic Guitars International • All rights reserved |
