NEW Fritz Mueller Spruce Double Top
Top: Spruce Double Top
Back and sides: Rosewood
Fritz continues to add loyal fans around the globe and I have sent his guitars to appreciative clients in many countries around the world now. Fritz is just a genuine 'nice guy', and I know this sounds a little 'out there' but I swear that some of a builders personality is somehow captured in a guitars personality, and such is definitely the case with Fritz, his guitars are, well, just 'nice', friendly, easy to feel at home with , just like Fritz.
This is a Spruce double top, and I am a big fan of Spruce double tops as you may know from readings elsewhere on this site. My own double top is a Spruce one. The Spruce double tops, and this Mueller is a perfect example of this, have a gorgeous melodic tone that has the clarity of spruce but feels somehow more 'mellow' and 'played in' at the same time. It is really a wonderful tone and I find both Cedar and Spruce lovers are drawn to it. When I play a guitar for the first time as it arrives in the shop, I wait for a word to come into my mind that describes its personality. As I played this Spruce Double top a while the word 'Haunting' kept entering my mind. It is that kind of character, the kind that makes you sit up and take notice, not 'in your face' but soulful and lilting. Very pleasant and a bit 'sweet' too. And volume/projection/response? All spot on as usual with Fritz. A superior double top.
The guitar plays very easily of course and I must admit I like the feel of the oiled neck too. Fritz uses Graf tuners which are increasingly showing up on the finest guitars with good reason, and a twelve hole tie block. Any spruce lover, who enjoys double tops, would be fascinated by this guitar.
