This wonderful Marin found a new home, I will be traveling to Spain to try a new Marin in September, if you are interested in a Marin please contact me. All my Marin guitars are tested in Spain by either myself or my concert artist friend, I cherry pick the best ones for my clients in this way. Marin has a well deserved reputation as the finest builder in Granada and one of the finest builders in all of Spain. He is a gentle person, kind, humble and amiable. His guitars are loved the world over. His collaboration with French master builder and legend Robert Bouchet resulted in guitars which while uniquely Spanish, have their own very special and unique character, and this is why Antonio has so many fans around the globe. I have been working with Antonio for many many years and as a result he always seems to select his finest woods for the guitars he builds for me. This guitar has a beautiful aged Spruce soundboard, and a 20th half fret as well. As always Antonio applies a flawless finish of French Polished Shellac. Marin's are among the most classic and beautiful of the Spanish guitars today. But what keeps Marin in the hearts of so many is what you hear from his guitars, not just what you see. They are sublimely 'emotional' sounding guitars, they can literally 'laugh' or 'weep', expressing what you feel honestly, and directly in a way very few guitars can. I remember I once sent three guitars to a client who practiced in a little room next to the kitchen where his wife spent a lot of time. He called me after he got the guitars and told me that his wife just never ever really paid attention to his playing really. He played the first guitar I sent, which was a nice guitar from a well known English builder. She just kept on working. He played the next guitar, which was from a well known Japanese builder, and again she just kept on working in the kitchen as usual. But when he played the Marin, he said for the very first time ever, she stopped what she was doing and came to his room and asked 'what is that beautiful sound'. I have always remembered that story because it so nicely characterizes the effect that a Marin guitar has on not only the player, but the listener as well. They just 'get' you. This guitar is exquisitely Marin. Absolutely gorgeous basses which are finely balanced with the trebles, while the trebles sing with a liveliness and sweetness absolutely delightful. I instantly felt at 'home' with this guitar, it is one of those guitars, no need to struggle or explore, you just sit down and play and you feel like she is already an old dear friend. This is a joyful Marin, his ongoing passion for his building is alive in this guitar, and although he speaks more about retiring these days, we can only hope that he continues bringing us these treasures for many years to come. ©2010 Classic Guitars International - All rights reserved |
