Plazuelo works side-by-side in the shop that he and his famous uncle Antonio Marin Montero share in Granada. He has been building some of the best guitars, particularly Flamenco guitars, in Granada for years no doubt aided by his early apprenticeship with Antonio. While Antonio makes Flamenco guitars but mainly builds Classical's, I find the reverse somewhat true with Plazuelo. While he builds classical guitars it is his Flamenco guitars that I am most drawn to. Over the many years we have worked together his Blanca's just got better and better until at one point I was so blown away by his guitars that I actually sold all my 6 personal Reyes guitars and just played a Plazuelo for quite a while. Now THAT is a compliment! Recently I sold my own Plazuelo but only because Maestro Arcangel Fernandez agreed to build me a personal Blanca and Negra which I now enjoy. But in my opinion, it takes a fine Reyes or Arcangel to 'dislodge' a great Plazuelo out of my arms, and that is saying something. I love this Blanca, it is lively, bright, loud and has a very flamenco personality. One of the aspects I enjoy about this guitar is the crisp trebles and quick raspy basses that let you really bark out a firm bulerias, but which can be quite easily coaxed into a beautiful soft Rhondena a moment later. This is an exceptionally good Blanca from Plazuelo, who always builds a great Flamenco, but I feel as if this one has that 'something extra' that really sets it apart even more than usual. |
