In Germany three double top builders are creating the finest German double tops on the planet, Matthias Dammann, Michel Brück, and Jakob Lebisch. I am fortunate to see/hear/play more double top guitars from all over the world than anybody else and in my opinion these three builders are equal in the quality and character and workmanship, and are creating perhaps the finest double top guitars in the world, along with a very few other fine builders outside of Germany. But within Germany there are no equals to these three in my experience.

Each stands out in their own way of course, and the guitars from these builders all have their own personality. Jakob’s guitars stand out by pushing the envelope of what is possible with a double top guitar, in much the same way as Dammann did originally. Jakob is always striving to discover any nuance that he can impart to bring even the most subtle and refined improvement to the double top guitar. His attention to detail is legendary, and in addition he has a true artistic eye as well, always seeking to create a visual harmony with his instruments that is as striking as the tonal harmony he creates with his design.

This instrument is stunningly beautiful as you can see, and like all his guitars Jakob has taken great care to select and match the colors and woods to create a harmonious whole. The craftsmanship is standard setting. Tonally the guitar expresses immense character and perfectly blends the colors and nuances any player would treasure with the sonic abilities of the very finest double tops, creating a beautiful yet very powerful and sensitive voice.
