Packing your guitar for shipping

Disclaimer: Classic Guitars International accepts no responsibility for any damage incurred in transit to us. These packing instructions are guidelines only and are intended to minimize any risk of damage. Clients should contact their shipping carrier and fully insure each instrument.

1) Remove all items from the case which could work loose and damage the guitar during shipping ( case keys etc.). Seal them in an envelope and place inside the case compartment. Note: if sending a guitar for sale or consignment you must also place new strings on the guitar and ship in a sturdy and functional guitar case.
2) Use a hard-shell case in good condition with working latches. Minimize any movement of the guitar within the case by placing soft t-shirts. Make sure the neck is adequately supported as well. The guitar should have a ‘snug’ but not too tight fit in the case. You may want to provide some cushion support beneath the headstock but be careful not to place so much padding there that it raises the neck off it’s cradle.
3) Loosen but do not remove the strings, a few turns will do. Include a sheet of paper with your name and address and all information about the guitar inside the case compartment.
4) Obtain a guitar box from almost any guitar shop, or from a boxing company in your area.
5) Place some bubble wrap or wadded newspaper on the bottom of the box, at least three or four inches will do. Place the guitar, in it’s case, in the box so that it rests on the padding placed on the bottom. Add addition padding where possible, around the sides and up to and over the top of the case. As much as possible the case should be surrounded by padding within the box, but do not stuff so much material in that you deform the box or add too much pressure on the case. Tape the box shut using sturdy packing grade tape.
6) We recommend, but do not require, FEDEX. They have an excellent safety record with us. Next day air or second day air are the only two services recommended. Ground service is less expensive, but riskier.
7) Be certain to remove any loose items such as case keys etc from inside the case and secure them in an envelop so they do not work loose during shipping and damage the finish of the guitar
8) Remember to inquire about insuring your guitar. All carriers can assist in obtaining insurance.
