Readers may recall a few years back when I posted “Natalie” the guitar that Scott Tennant owns and which Scott tells me has ‘been around the world with me a few times’. Former LAGQ member Andrew York like Scott’s guitar so much you may also recall me posting about him receiving his own Woodfield a few months ago, which he has already played in a couple of his videos on “Andrew’s Den”.

This guitar is essentially a mirror image of those guitars, a Grand Concert ll guitar which has become Philips most popular design. Although he builds a fine Cedar version, Phil is really a master of Spruce and has a superb knowledge and skill building in Spruce. Most of the CGll guitars my clients acquire are Spruce. They are just amazing, listen to Scott or Andy if you require convincing.

In addition his unique design elevates only the treble side of the fingerboard or more accurately, lowers the soundboard in that area, to create an ‘elevated effect’ and provide excellent access. On top of this his hand applied artistic touches on the back, headstock, tie block, and rosette are and elegant add unusual visually beautiful artistic touches to his instruments.

As you can hear if you listen to Scott or Andy along with others, these instruments blend the old world and the new in a lovely and refined manner. Phil’s guitars retain that ‘woody’ sound we all cherish, and possess a beautiful complex voice enhanced by attributes today’s players demand, volume, projection, dynamic range, and superb playability.

This is another fine Woodfield that will be as at home on a stage or recording studio as it would be in your living room.
