NEW Masaki Sakurai “Maestro-RF” Model

Sakurai guitars have a strong following of appreciative owners, and this example makes it easy to see why. Masaki Sakurai of course is the nephew of famed builder Masaru Kohno, and together they are considered the elite of Japanese luthiers and with good reason.

This guitar is the ‘Maestro’ model and the ‘RF’ designation refers to the elevated fingerboard ala a Humphrey Millennium or a Greg Buyers, providing access to the upper registers otherwise reserved for cutaway style guitars.

I was very pleasantly surprised by this guitar, I picked it up expecting a new Spruce guitar to be a bight tight and restricted having not been played in yet. What a surprise I was in store for. The guitar sings like it is already played in, and is surprisingly ‘open’ with a lovely spruce tone and great clarity and colors. I am very impressed. I have not had a lot of Sakurai guitars thru the shop, based on this, that may change.

The Gotoh tuners, 12 hole tie block, and raised fingerboard give it a modern feel and look, but the tone is very traditional and quite lovely.
