According to the dealer who originally sold this guitar to my client this guitar was owned by Pepe Romero Sr. who played it extensively in concerts, and in fact they point to his initials ‘PR’ which can be seen by looking from the sound hole at the harmonic bar (see photo). Accordingly they describe the name ‘La Serrana’ to be in honor of Miguel Rodriguez Sr’s wife.
Of course all owners of 664 guitars these days describe them as ‘easy to play’ right? But in this case it is actually true, my small hands felt right at home on this neck, and I really did not notice the scale until I measured it.
The guitar has some minor playing wear on it at this point but otherwise is in good solid condition.
But what about the voice? Exceptionally good Rodriguez, bold and powerful of course but also a very quick response, notes seem to ‘release’ from the strings purely by touching them, the trebles are full and round and expressive and the basses are deep and rich. It is easy to imagine why a player the caliber of Pepe Romero was attracted to this instrument.
A fine Rodriguez by any measure.
