As the only authorized representative in the world for Jose and Liam Romanillos I have had the pleasure and privilege of offering many of their superlative heirloom level instruments for many many years. Liam’s guitars ‘are’ Jose’s guitars and vice versa, in my experience. And Liam continues to build using the exact same store of wood that Jose himself acquired many decades ago. I have seen it with my own eyes still gracefully aging, stacks of it, in the Romanillos shop. Any luthier on the planet would give almost anything for old aged well seasoned woods like this.
And of all those, one of the most special ones I have had in the shop was this one, La Anniversario’ a very special guitar. Before his passing Jose still named all the guitars as Liam finished them. This guitar was made with love in honor of the 50th wedding anniversary of his parents and was named by Jose ‘La Anniversario’ in honor of that event.
She has a purely divine voice, a haunting melodic siren song kind of voice, and she is the prefect example of why Romanillos guitars, by both Jose and Liam, are my hands down favorite Spruce fan braced guitars in the world.
There is only one blemish and that is what appears to be a finish crack on the top above and below the bridge. It is so tight that I did not even notice it until I accidentally ran my finger across it. Upon examination with a mirror I do not see anything indicating it is a crack inside, so it may be simply a surface crack in the finish. It is self limiting as it stops right where it meets one of the braces. Given that it may only be a finish crack, and that it is self limited by the brace etc I personally would not do anything to it. However the price has been adjusted to reflect that this small blemish does exist.
A very very special guitar.
