I was super excited to receive this “Negra” from Antonio Marin Montero, I can’t recall how long it has been since I had a Negra of his in the shop. The last new Flamenco he was kind enough to build was a Blanca, and of course many of the guitars I have from him are classical, so this is a treat I was really looking forward to. My anticipation was well rewarded. This is a stunning Negra, the basses are so strong you feel like you have the power to knock someone over just be hitting the E string. Geez, just awesome. The trebles are clear and Flamenco sounding, and I can tell they will follow the trajectory of all Marin’s when played in and will be the equal of the powerhouse basses. This Spruce Negra is already intriguing and is only going to play in better of course. I often like to quote my former Flamenco teacher Adam Del Monte who describes the way a Marin plays as “like butter!” and Adam is right, smooth as silk. A great combination of beauty, Flamenco punch, and a bold sure voice. Flawless.
