I am very honored that the Romanillos family selected me to find loving homes for the last 4 guitars Jose Romanillos ever made. Two Cypress, and two Rosewood guitars. This guitar, “Medio Siglo” is perhaps the finest Romanillos I have head, seen or played, it is absolutely flawless in every respect. Please enjoy the video of Andrew York playing this very guitar posted on this page. Sitting in the other room as Andy played the guitar I could not help but be swept away by its beautiful voice, and Andrew coaxed out every nuance from the guitar in his lovely composition ‘For Mark’ as if it was written just for this guitar.

The quality of the details, the quality of the fine old rosewood and spruce and the attention to detail of the building enhance the beautiful voice such that it is understandable that Jose himself considered this his finest guitar. In fact when Antigoni Goni recorded her special project playing the same four of the last guitars, she too said that while they were all superb, Medio Siglo was her personal favorite. I will add my vote to theirs, simply the best of the best, I agree with them both.

Jose finished this guitar not in the usual French Polish of Shellac, but with a clear layer of only egg whites, which leaves the wood somewhat protected but looking beautifully natural, a very unusual and highly pleasing look to my eye, I quite like it.

I will not even attempt to describe this in words, how do you describe perfection? I will let the photographs and video on this page speak for themselves.

This is the finest example of Jose’s work perhaps in the World, absolutely heavenly.
