I was delighted once I discovered and heard a lovely Maple/Spruce guitar Davide had built for the expo to find that he also built double top guitars. As I am fortunate enough to play/hear/sell more double tops than anybody in the world, I was interested to hear this guitar. We were able to go to a private room where a fine player played this guitar while I was able to listen. Before the first passage was finished, I was already smiling and shaking my head ‘yes’.

The guitar was highly expressive and ’sweet’ sounding, and the tone for me was captivating. I shot a quick video in a private area, posted on this page, and Davide explains his concept for his double tops, which unlike nomex double tops with a thin ‘core’ material, are ’true’ double tops with only two pieces of wood where he uses a special machine to ‘mill’ channels in one of the tops to create the effect of a core but in actuality the entire system is all wood. He also uses a standard fingerboard, not a raised fingerboard, which he feels adds ’sweetness’ to the character, and in fact this was one of the attributes I noted when I heard the guitar.
