2022 Dieter Müller Cedar/Double (composite) top

Dieter Müller joins a tiny handful of other German luthiers who are considered the best double top builders in the world. I have had the honor of working with Dieter for many years and I continue to marvel at how consistently outstanding his exquisite double tops are. In 2000 Dieter really caught the attention of the world when Stephan Schmidt recorded his stunning ‘Bach Lute Works’ on a Dieter Müller guitar (if you don’t own this recording you should here is the link on amazon for you!  https://www.amazon.com/Bach-Lute-Pieces-Ten-String-Guitar/dp/B01NCTKU2L). Since that time his guitars have been in steadily increasing demand.

Before covid restricted world travel, Dieter visited me here in the US and brought with him a custom Cedar/Ziricote double top that simply blew me away it was so spectacular, not only to hear, but also to look at! The guitar sold almost instantly and I was so impressed I asked him to build a duplicate which is this guitar. Same exact result, absolutely incredible.

The guitar is in many ways very Dammann-like in its voicing/ extreme light weight and characteristics, and with Dammann’s often selling in the $60,000 range these days for newer clean examples, I have always felt that Dieter’s guitars offered a superb alternative to a Dammann at a price a mere mortal could afford! Stellar projection and volume as well and a seemingly boundless dynamic range all result in one of the most desirable double tops on the planet.

Add to that the eye catching visual beauty of the Ziricote back and sides, which almost looks like a polished gem stone, and the smooth Perona tuners, and wrap it all up in a lovely Voisesnut case and you simply can’t find anything missing from the entire package, just flawless.
