I have sold several instruments by luthier Edgar Monch and I always loved them, so it was a joy for me when Kolya and I spoke over the phone about working together. Edgar was Kolya’s uncle and he started building over 40 years ago in Edgar’s shop. Kolya has been a highly respected luthier in Germany for many decades now and his instruments are enjoyed by Matt Palmer, Raphaella Smits and Laura Young among others.

Kolya and I discussed this guitar at length and decided on a Spruce Lattice braced guitar with stunning Macassar Ebony back and sides. Kolya suggested a 20th half fret, and Baljak tuners as well. The guitar is gorgeous.

This instrument is powerful and focused and very clear and precise, very articulate! She is extremely well balanced and has the dynamic range we all love in modern lattice/double top guitars. A lovely Spruce voice already more open that you might anticipate in a new Spruce guitar, and she will unfold quickly as lattice and double tops tend to do.

I am very selective as you know about the luthiers I work with, and when it comes to lattice guitars I have only found those of Jim Redgate, Philip Woodfield, Greg Byers, Smallman, and Thomas Humphrey to perform at the very highest level. I am very pleased to add Kolya to that elite list.
