What a special treat for me, this brand new Liam Romanillos happened to arrive while the last Jose Romanillos Rosewood every made was also in the shop, “Medio Siglo”. Medio Siglo has never been sold and was always in the Romanillos family until they asked me to find a home for her( though it had been borrowed and played for a couple special projects)so it is as close as one could get to a ’new’ Jose Romanillos. So when this Liam Romanillos arrived, which is the latest new Romanillos in the world, I had the delightful opportunity to sit down with both guitars and to get a sense for what a ’new’ Jose Romanillos would sound like, compared to a new Liam Romanillos, as close to apples and apples as you could get since so many of the Jose guitars have been so played in over the decades and comparing them to any new guitar puts the new guitar somewhat at a disadvantage.

As I suspected, the two guitars have VERY similar characteristics. I always suspected this would be the case and that a new Liam Romanillos, once played in a while, would sound extremely similar to a played in Jose guitar. And such I believe I have now confirmed. In fact Liam uses the same woods that Jose had cut decades ago which has been aging in Liam’s shop. Superb woods any luthier would salivate over. Look for more photos and information on Medio Siglo soon, as well as a video of Andrew York playing her. Stay tuned for that in the near future.

But for now, this guitar brings to the player all the tonal colors and ethereal captivating voice that Jose’s guitars are so well known for, albeit for perhaps half the price. Absolutely angelic sounding guitar and the craftsmanship is as beautiful to look at as she is to listen to.

An exquisite guitar by any measure.
