2013 Kent Hamblin STEEL STRING ‘cutaway’
Back and sides: Quilted mahogany
Pick up: LR Baggs ‘Lyric’
Kent Hamblin is a bit of a well kept secret in the steel string guitars, superb well built guitars at very reasonable prices for hand made instruments of this quality.
Kent learned to build at the Roberto-Venn school of lutherie in Utah, and followed that with stints a Taylor, Phoenix guitars, and Charles Fox before moving to build in Telluride, home of the famous Telluride bluegrass festival. Sadly I heard somewhere he suffered an injury in the shop and is no longer building, I hope this is not the case and he recovers and continues.
The guitar has stunning quilted Mahogany back and sides, a great sounding spruce top, Gotoh tuners, and an LR Baggs ‘lyric’ pick up installed. It is really a fingerpicking guitar and feels super comfortable to play with a great tone and excellent build quality.
